Big Ideas, Real Impact.
The annual golf tournament is organized in celebration of Katie’s birthday, and occurs on the Sunday closest to Katie’s birthday, June 2. There are special holes, such as win a car for a hole-in-one, putting with Katie’s field hockey stick, teeing off with her very own clubs, a corn hole contest and/or basketball contest. It is a fun-filled day starting with gifts for all golfers and ending with awards and dinner. An event not to miss!
Annual Golf Tournament:
Serve a Meal:
Help serve a meal at Katie’s House to the residents of Champlain Place. The residents are provided health meals in a safe and warm space. Often times, these individuals have not experienced kindness in a very long time, so having a caring and friendly face helping them meet their most basic needs has a bigger impact on their lives than you can imagine. Come be a part of the solution for individuals who are working hard to better their lives. Katie’s Kindness is proud to have presented $10,000 to Champlain Place in January, 2026. If you would like to help serve meals, please contact Emily Plasse at 802-540-1239 or email her at eplasse@cvoeo.org.
Celebration of Trees:
Celebration of Trees occurs at Christmastime, usually at the University Mall and organized by ANEW Place. Various local businesses decorate a Christmas tree and load the tree with gifts and gift cards. Visitors can just enjoy the season by looking at all the beautiful trees, or making a donation to ANEW Place. In return for a donation, you will receive raffle tickets that can be placed raffle boxes for the trees you like for a chance to win the entire tree, the decorations and all the gifts on or under it. All donations benefit individuals experiencing homelessness. Each year a tree is decorated in Katie’s honor. The visitor that won Katie’s 2025 tree received a $1,000 shopping spree downtown.
Build a Bed:
Come build a bed event with us, hosted by Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Each event builds 50 beds that will be delivered to local children to get them off the floor. Each child receives a bed, pillow, sheets and a blanket. This is a very rewarding event to experience. There are stations for sawing, drilling, sanding, staining and more. After all your hard work, you are rewarded with an amazing luncheon. If you want to continue to give back, you can help deliver the beds to some very thankful children. Katie’s Kindness attends this event annually and makes a donation to Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
Scholarship Award:
The first recipient of the Katie’s Kindness Scholarship Award was Ava Burdick of Colchester, which was presented to her by Dave and Lisa Hartnett, and Katie’s Kindness board member, Kevin Garrison. Ava’s mother, Jennifer Burdick, was also by her side for the presentation.
Ava was a standout scholar/fine arts/athlete at Colchester High School. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in June, 2025. Ava is now a freshman at Endicott College.
Ava’s mother, Jennifer Burdick, has been a teacher for 29 years, with the last 24 years being in the Burlington School System. She was a teacher of Katie Hartnett’s and maintained a strong relationship with her after Katie graduated from Burlington High School. Katie’s Kindness is very pleased to have had Ava as the first recipient of the scholarship in Katie’s name.
